Yesterday, Ron Fi & Josh went off to pick up 5 new chicks.
These are not egg layers, these will be dinner, and the kids have been told from the start not to get to attached to them - and most importantly no naming any of them!!
Josh has said he'd like to have a go at plucking a chicken, which I'm glad coz I'm going to need a hand clucking 5 chickens!
Knowing my luck he'll be better at it than me!
The lady we got them from (Joy) has given us lots of advice on what to feed them and when, so we get the best of of them.
They are the same type of birds Huge (River Cottage Man) used in his programme when they raised the cheap 2 for a fiver type ones in the barn and the ones outside free ranging (I can't think of what the programme was called right now - but if your a Chicken Out fan then you know the one I mean)
I'm really looking forward to raising these little guys, mainly as it is going back to basics and truelly raising my own food for my growing family.
In less than 16 weeks (chicks are 3 weeks old now) time I will be cooking and eating a a happy healthy chicken that was spoilt rotton all the way. They may be meaties but they still have the same needs as our eggy girls and they will get it all, unlike their poor barn raised cousins around the country.

Intro...
Hi
This is the blog of Ange & Ron and their 4 children who live on "Ron's Farm".
But I have to set 1 think straight.....
....We don't live on a farm (yet!)
It all started in August 2007. I (Ange) moved in with Ron in his mid terrace house with my 3 children. I had 1 German Shepherd called Starr, 1 rather fat cat called Willow, and a few rabbits (I think it was about 6 or 7) & Ron only had 1 cat called Smoky. Sadly Smokey is no longer with us.
Now, well it's a bit different, you can't go far in our house without meeting something furry or with feathers on!
I'm going to blame Ron for it really - it was his idea to have a few chickens and for me to get a few more rabbits (lol)
But just from that idea we have change our life forever.
Self Sufficenicy is now our goal and we will get there one day. But for now we are happy living in our little 'farm' and thanks to Kerrie we have a name for it - Ron's Farm.
